CAFNR and SNR celebrate spring 2017 commencement ceremonies May 12-13

The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and the School of Natural Resources will send approximately 590 students out into the professional world as graduates during May 2017 commencement ceremonies.

The CAFNR graduation ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, in the Hearnes Center. About 450 graduates are expected to receive diplomas from the various disciplines in the College.

The speaker for CAFNR commencement will be UM System Curator Darryl Chatman, general counsel for the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Chatman has three degrees from CAFNR, including two in animal sciences (B.S. ’97, M.S. ’01) in addition to one in agricultural economics (M.S. ’07). He also received his J.D. in Business and Commercial Litigation from MU in 2008 and previously worked in St. Louis for Armstrong Teasdale LLP. Chatman is also a former linebacker for the MU football team (’92-’96).

SNR will hold commencement ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in Jesse Auditorium. Approximately 140 students will receive diplomas at the ceremony.

Carol S. Comer

The commencement speaker for SNR will be Carol S. Comer, director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Comer previously served as Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University School of Business and earned a master’s and law degree from Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs and Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
