SPICKARD, MO. – Creating strategies to enhance beef cattle production was the core focus of the Thompson Research Center Field Day, held Tuesday, Sept. 15.

More than 150 farmers, producers and students heard numerous topics on management strategies to improve beef cattle production.

“We had a really great crowd and a lot of great presentations,” Superintendent Rodney Geisert said. “Guests heard topics on cow nutrition management, new drug regulations for feed and forest management and sales, among other things.”

More than 150 farmers, producers and students attended the Thompson Research Center Field Day on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Students from Trenton High School and North Central Missouri College attended the event. Topics covered included price risk management in the face of increasing cattle supplies, enhancing pregnancy rates with split-time artificial insemination and genetic testing for heifers.

Forages were also touched on during the presentations, along with talks on timber sales. There were also two demonstrations.

“We did some really nice demonstrations of genomic evaluation of beef cows and controlled burning,” Geisert said.
