MT. VERNON, MO. – Guests heard research on a variety of topics during the Southwest Research Center Field Day, held on Friday, Sept. 11.

More than 200 farmers and producers attended the event, which covered agricultural topics such as beef and forages.

“This year we had more than 20 speakers providing wide-ranging, timely and pertinent information to a great group of visitors,” Superintendent David Cope said.

Numerous tours were offered during Friday’s Field Day. Along with a beef and forages tour, guests could take a horticulture tour which included looks at tomatoes, ginger and butterfly gardening. There was also a tour of the vineyard. Presentations on drones, soil health and bees were given as well.

The event included a free lunch and free health screenings. The health screenings included blood pressure, blood sugar and bone density checks.

“We had something at Field Day that everyone could learn from,” Cope said.
