Susan Barr is the Senior Director of Revenue Management Systems Strategy for Marriott International’s Global Revenue Management. Coincidentally, she is also a proud MU alumna, and a graduate of the Hotel & Restaurant Management program.
“The program at MU helped me to develop my business acumen and critical-thinking skills, which have proven invaluable in my career. Understanding the basics of financial and operating statements and corporate investment goals have always served me well,” says Barr.
Barr has had a remarkable career, which has included 30 years of experience with Marriott. In her current role, she is responsible for stewardship of the Revenue Management System Solutions. This system is used by all Marriott-branded hotels around the world to execute pricing, yield management, forecasting, sales strategies and reporting. Barr works closely with Marriott’s Information Technology team to develop original and efficient automated solutions for Marriott’s Revenue Management Organization. In addition to this, Barr also works in close collaboration with the Field/Market Revenue Management users to ensure implementation and execution.
“The best thing about my career is the opportunity to be involved and challenged by continuous change and learning new things,” relates Barr. “Although I have been with Marriott for a very long time, the business is always changing and presenting new growth opportunities. Whether it be technology changes, organizational changes, or working in different economic cycles, I have had the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally throughout my career.”
During her time with Marriot, she has had experience in both Market and Area Revenue Management positions, as well as property-based Front Office Operations. Throughout her career she has held several Regional and Area positions with Marriott including Area Director of Revenue Management and Vice President-Revenue Strategy for the Western Region.
