A little rain didn’t stop the fun out at L.A. Nickell Golf Course Friday, Sept. 12. More than 130 golfers on 33 teams came out to support the annual Mizzou Ag Alumni Association’s Tiger Ag Classic.
Alumni and friends helped raise more than $20,000 through the tournament and the MU Steak Fry that followed. More than 200 attendees enjoyed the Steak Fry, on the cold, damp night.
“I was very pleased with the turnout, given the cool, rainy weather we were dealt,” said Matt Horstmeier, event chair. “With the help and support of everyone from the committee to the alumni and friends, I believe this year’s Tiger Ag Classic was a tremendous success.”
The winners of the championship flight were Shane Kinne, ‘11; Gary Wheeler; Scott Swayne; and Honorable Caleb Rowden, MO State Rep.
“This event is one of two Ag Alumni Association fundraising efforts benefiting CAFNR students through scholarships and teaching enhancements,” Horstmeier said. “These students are our next industry leaders so it is imperative they receive the best educational experience that CAFNR has to offer. It was rewarding to see all the current scholarship recipients in attendance at the Steak Fry. We certainly have a great group of students representing our College!”
Also during the evening program at the Steak Fry, Doug Parr, Leawood, Kan., was recognized as a Citation of Merit award winner, since he was unable to attend the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources’ Celebration of Excellence ceremony in April.
After a sweltering tournament in 2013 and a chilly one this year, who knows what 2015 will bring? Join us next year and find out!
