Greenley Field Day

The Missouri Department of Agriculture Director Richard Fordyce speaks during lunch at the 37th Annual Greenley Field Day. The event was held Aug. 5, at the center near Novelty, Mo., and included educational talks and demonstrations for farmers and landowners.

Organic Field Day

Organic Field Day

The 2nd Organic Field Day was held at Bradford Research Center Aug. 1. The educational workshop featured talks and demonstrations geared toward organic and sustainable practices. Kerry Clark, research associate at Bradford, gives a demonstration of a rainfall simulator on soil examples of tilled, no-till, no-till cover crop and fescue. Jars collect water to illustrate runoff and soil penetration. The tilled soil had the most runoff and least ground penetration. The cover crop had the least runoff and one of the highest in ground penetration.

Summer Academies

Summer Academies

Students from CAFNR's Forestry Summer Academy took a field trip to Hinkson Creek on Wednesday, July 16, to learn about how hydrologists collect various physical data to determine stream flow velocity. They were able to measure the channel width, along with using ping pong balls to measure the stream flow. Additional 2014 academies included Culinary Science, Stats & Sports, Sciences of Life, Trap and Teach Ag.

Wurdack Advisory Meeting

Wurdack Advisory Meeting

Wurdack Research Center held its annual Advisory Board meeting at the center in Cook Station June 20. Superintendent Dusty Walter and Wurdack Farm Manager Brent Booker led the wagon tour across the livestock and forage fields as well as gave updates on current research projects. A tour of the pine savanna was also given and information about future plans of management of the area was presented.

CAFNR Staff Council held its annual picnic Friday, June 20, outside of the Animal Sciences Research Center. Food, giveaways, games and shaved ice were all part of the activities.

Quail.Native Field Day

The Quail & Native Pollinator Field Day was held at Bradford Research Center June 19. Landowners from across the Midwest came to the center near Columbia to learn about ways to help improve quail numbers on their property.

Delta Advisory Meeting

The Fisher Delta Research Center in Portageville hosted its annual Advisory Board meeting June 16. Researchers at the center shared with board members the latest studies and what the future has in store. Here Cotton Specialist Andrea Jones speaks about the center's microgin and the current studies at the center.
