The Agricultural Education Graduate Student Association will host the second Student Organization Leadership Academy Feb. 22. The Academy is open to all students in CAFNR, whether they belong to an organization or not. The Ag Alumni Association is providing funding for the event.
The day will be split up into two sessions, morning and afternoon. During the morning session, attendees will hear from the keynote speaker, Ag Alumni president-elect, Colleen Abbott.
Lunch from Buckingham’s BBQ will be provided, and lunchtime will include a panel consisting of CAFNR Ag Alumni board members. They will be answering any questions participants may have.
The afternoon will consist of six sessions, with five new sessions from last year’s Academy. They include Professional Development, Marketing and Recruitment, Planning Events, Building Strong Officer Teams, Fundraising and Budgets, and Meeting Logistics. Each presenter has been hand-picked to lead a session that relates closely to their expertise. Attendees can rank which ones they would like to attend, and will most will attend three out of six of the afternoon seminars.
“Our association shares the same goal for the event,” said Kristina M. Haug, graduate teaching and research assistant for the department of agricultural education and leadership. “We want it to be beneficial and purposeful for the students. We want them to gain skills and experiences with leadership that they can use in their organizations and future.”
The academy will be held in the Animal Science Research Center from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Each organization with four or more representatives from their chapter will be entered into a drawing for $300, $200 and $100 prizes for their organization, in addition to MU gear.
Registration is due Feb. 7. The form can be found at https://missouri.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_2no4DI3zCgB06A5.
