

Tiger Ag Classic 2013 Winning Team

Tiger Ag Classic, held Sept. 6 at L.A. Nickell Golf Course, is hosted by the Mizzou Ag Alumni Association each fall to benefit students in the College.


Tomato Fest
The 9th Annual Tomato Festival was held at Bradford Research Center in Columbia Sept. 5. More than 150 tomato varieties and nearly 120 different peppers were made available for the public to sample. Several local restaurants sent their top chefs to prepare a tomato-based dish for attendees to try.

Dave Maupin receives a boutonniere from co-worker Lauren Jackson at his retirement ceremony Aug. 29. Dave was the system administrator-expert for the Division of Applied Social Sciences at the time of his retirement. He worked at MU for more than 33 years, 23 years of which were in DASS.


Wolfe at Delta
University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe speaks at the 52nd annual Fisher Delta Research Center Field Day, Aug. 29. The morning kicked off with a breakfast at Rone Hall and proceeded with educational tours around the research center.


Hundley Whaley
The 2013 Hundley-Whaley Field Day was held at the research center in Albany, Mo., Aug. 28. Rep. Casey Guernsey of the 2nd District chatted with Tom Payne, dean of the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, at lunch.


Fall Roundup
Approximately 350 MU freshmen attended CAFNR Fall Round-Up Aug. 28, with a total attendance of 500 students. Representatives from 42 clubs and organizations were there to help the new students get involved in CAFNR.


Graves-Chapple
MU Extension Regional Engineer Kent Shannon spoke to the crowd about unmanned aircraft and the future of using this new technology for agriculture, at the 25th Annual Graves-Chapple Field Day. The event was held at the research center near Rock Port, Mo., Aug. 27. The day kicked off with a breakfast and at 9 a.m. three different educational tours began around the center.


Sweet Corn Tasting
The annual Sweet Corn Tasting was held Aug. 23 at Bradford Research Center in Columbia. MU staff, faculty and friends came to sample nearly 30 different corn varieties grown at the research center. More than a dozen melon varieties also were available for tasting. Everyone was urged to score the corn and melons based on taste. The results will help the staff at Bradford and will provide the seed developers with an idea of what people like.


Soil Health Expo
Bradford Research Center's Soil Health Expo, held Aug. 9-10, featured tours, training sessions, demonstrations and more. In addition to MU, the event was sponsored by the Natural Resources Conservation Service.


Greenley
The 2013 36th Annual Greenley Memorial Research Center Field Day was held on Aug. 6. Breakfast was served at 7 a.m. followed by a day of educational tours. Topics covered included information for landowners about the effects of flooding on crops, tillage radish management, ways to waste less hay and common pest problems encountered.


Organic
The First Organic Field Day at Bradford Research Center in Columbia was held Aug. 1. Tours and talks were centered around research done at the MU College of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources center. Leslie Touzeau, research specialist at Bradford, speaks to the crowd about organic vegetable research. Her latest study involves looking at different types of mulching and cover systems.


Turfgrass
The 2013 Turfgrass & Ornamental Field Day held July 30 at South Farm Research Center in Columbia, Mo. The annual Field Day is a chance for those in the turfgrass and landscape industry to learn from MU specialists about the latest management strategies, technology and research. Josh McPherson, sports turf manager for the University of Missouri Athletics, led a tour through MU's baseball, softball, soccer, practice fields and Faurot Field. He spoke to the group about what the MU Turf Team does to help maintain the high-quality of playing surfaces at the university.
