Alum John Cowherd appointed to the Clean Water Commission

Governor Jay Nixon has appointed John Cowherd, B.S. Agricultural Economics ’81 and J.D. ‘85, to the Clean Water Commission.

Along with the other six members of the Commission, Cowherd will implement regulations and policies to carry out planning, monitoring, permitting, enforcement and grant assistance activities that transmit the objectives of the Clean Water Law. The commission also handles all appeals of permits and staff decisions. They oversee the use of state construction grants and loan funds.

Cowherd is an attorney who operates his own private practice, John Cowherd Attorney-at-Law, in Mount Vernon, Mo., and serves as a bar examiner for the Missouri Supreme Court Board of Bar Examiners. He is a member the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, the Missouri Bar and the 39th Judicial Circuit Bar Association, according to his firm’s website.

Cowherd’s term will conclude April 12, 2014. Cowherd currently lives in Mount Vernon with his wife Lynne and five children and is active in the community.
