Urban Wildlife, United Kingdom
Program Overview
This three-week program will give students a first-hand look at cities in the United Kingdom and how they deal with wildlife conservation and biodiversity issues. Students will meet internationally recognized professionals in the conservation field.
This program will give students an understanding of how conservation is practiced from the perspective of national agencies, local governments, non-profits and grass-roots organizations.
Some of the visits will included the London Wetlands Centre, the Lewes Railway Lands, the Black Country Wildlife Trust, the Edinburgh Council and Holyrood Park.
Location
The program begins in London, one of the truly amazing cities in the world. Students will not only visit the London Wetlands Centre, but will also have opportunities to visit the theatre district, the British Museum, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and other cultural and historic sites. Students will also travel through the British countryside visiting Birmingham, Swansea, and Manchester, ending in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Academics
Students will earn three credits of Fisheries and Wildlife 3500 upon successful completion of the program. The three credits can be allocated as follows:
- Three credits of Professional Elective for students in the School of Natural Resources
- Three credits of International Agriculture and Natural Resources - 2190
Requirements
- 2.5 GPA
- Good Academic Standing
- Ecology Course or permission of instructor
Accommodation
Students will share rooms in hotels, hostels and bed and breakfasts throughout the program.
Students will have some free time to travel on their own while on the program. The program will also offer students the opportunity to interact with conservation professionals as well as gain hands-on experience with restoration and habitat management projects. Students will also be involved with environmental education and public outreach projects.

CAFNR scholarships and loans are available for CAFNR students on this program. Students may also use Financial Aid and University Scholarships for study abroad.

Costs are estimates for in-state students and include a few meals, but do not include personal spending money. Non-resident students will also be billed for 20 percent of their nonresident fees for the number of credits on the program. Please check with the program director for details.
