CAFNR students serve on advisory team
for Agriculture Future of America

Charlotte Jackson
Charlotte Jackson from Macon and Julia Shuck from Perry were selected as members of the 2009 Agriculture Future of America (AFA) Student Advisory Team.
The two University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources seniors, along with eight other college students from six states, serve as ambassadors to the organization and will plan the 2009 AFA Leaders Conference.
Jackson, majoring in Agricultural Education, and Shuck, majoring in Agricultural Journalism and Communications, were selected on their academic and leadership activities. Since May, Jackson and Shuck have worked with AFA staff and volunteers to plan the AFA Leaders Conference, Nov. 5-8, which is expected to draw more than 500 collegians from across the nation.
“AFA opens doors for college students striving to have successful careers in the agriculture and food industry by exposing them to leaders from various sectors of agriculture,” Jackson said. “I hope that through me and my work on the advisory team, these students will be inspired to take the next step in their career in agriculture.”

Julia Shuck
“AFA is an opportunity for young people to grow personally and professionally, discover what passions they have within agriculture and learn about what steps should be taken to pursue personal goals,” Shuck said. “I have gained much from my AFA experiences, and I am honored to have the chance to give back as a member of the Student Advisory Team.”
AFA’s mission is to create partnerships that identify, encourage and support college men and women who are preparing for careers in the agriculture and food industry. Since 1996, AFA has provided leader and career development training to more than 5,500 college students and young professionals in agriculture.
