James Groves Wins Technology Award
James Groves, CAFNR hotel and restaurant management chair and associate professor, has won the University of Missouri 2008 Excellence in Teaching with Technology Award in the Undergraduate Teaching Category.
The award is designed to recognize excellence in the efforts of faculty, staff, teaching assistants and graduate instructors using educational technologies to meaningfully improve teaching and learning at MU.
Groves earned his Ph.D. in food and hospitality administration from Kansas State University. His research interests include hospitality service management, hospitality education, student learning styles and educational technologies.
Awardees receive a cash award to be applied toward educational technology teaching-related expenses such as equipment or software. Awardees are also invited to participate in the annual campus Teaching Renewal Conference so that their work may be highlighted and shared with the campus community.
Any faculty member with a primary teaching appointment is eligible, including tenure track, non-regular and clinical faculty. Support staff involved in supporting technology in teaching, as well as graduate instructors and teaching assistants, are eligible.
Groves was nominated for the award by Marc Strid, program director of educational technologies for CAFNR. Groves and Strid have worked collaboratively for a number of years on educational technologies that are used in Grove's classes.
