Moving from the Sciences of Agriculture to the
Sciences of Life:
An International Perspective
April 5 to April 8, 2008
Travel to the heart of Life Sciences and Agriculture teaching and research on the University of Missouri campus and to the center of cutting-edge research at Monsanto and the Danforth Plant Sciences Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
Background
The traditional institutions of higher education in the Agricultural Sciences are undergoing rapid change. We observe the development of institutions that address Life Sciences with a modern, flexible and dynamic concept.
Similar developments are taking place both in the U.S. and in Europe. The challenge for institutional leaders is to define the mission for the life science institution in terms of our research and education programs to meet the expectations of prospective students and the needs of society.
Aim of the Conference
The Conference will compare and contrast the approaches to developing the life science institution on either side of the Atlantic.
In doing so, the Conference will question the extent of the wider remit of the life science institution in addressing the expectations for the multifunctional rural environment, and those of the public for healthy food and sustainability of the environment.
Expected Outcomes
The expected outcomes of the Conference will support institutional leaders in developing a clear vision for their institution, and an encouraging and supportive institutional framework to support the change process.
Target Audience
Senior management in NASULGC and ICA institutions.
