Maps in Medicine
- A unique program to increase student interest in and understanding of basic biology and human health.
- A program to develop curricular material that meets state and national standards, that will be disseminated nationally.
- A program to enrich science understanding and practices of teachers.
- A collaborative effort between MU, the Missouri Botanical Garden and high school teachers in Columbia Public Schools, Normandy School District and Parkway School District, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
Module 1 (2007-2009): Mapping Health (spread of infectious disease)
- An introduction to the avian influenza virus and flu pandemics.
- How avian flu spreads, as well as prevention and treatment.
Module 2 (2008-2010): Mapping Cell Fate (cell biology and development)

Opportunities for Teachers
Would you like to influence the design of the curriculum? Use the module with your classes? Attend a summer institute and professional development during the year?
- The Summer Institute will be held from July 14-18, 2008 on the MU campus.
- The institute is open to high school science and biology teachers from the three partner school districts.
- The deadline for application is April 25; graduate credit or stipends are included.
