2009 Outstanding Staff: Debbie Lingle

Debbie Lingle

DEBBIE LINGLE is the grants and contracts specialist in the Division of Plant Sciences. Her responsibilities include assisting faculty in grant proposal preparation, preparing and tracking grant submissions, reconciling grant expenditures and other administrative duties. Lingle has been with MU for 14 years.

"Plant Sciences currently has 151 active grants with 45 faculty members who submit an average of 20 grant proposals per month," noted the nomination letter sent by Susan Lasley, business manager; Mike Collins, division director; and Marc Linit, associate dean and director for research and outreach.

"DEBBIE IS AN HONEST, HARD WORKING AND DEDICATED EMPLOYEE WHO I CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON IN A CRUNCH."

— Susan Lasley, business manager

"Debbie's attention to detail is very important to make sure that each submission meets the posted requirements. Some of the faculty have a propensity to wait until the last moment to start the process. It is a truly amazing feat for her to enter everything in by the deadline. In her four and a half years that Debbie has been doing this job we have never had a proposal rejected because it did not meet the stated qualifications. Considering that Debbie has processed more than 800 proposals, I'd say that this is a remarkable achievement."

"Debbie is an honest, hard working and dedicated employee who I can always count on in a crunch and who I know will is always doing the very best at her job," said Lasley. "I believe another reason why Debbie's proposal submission rate is so successful is that when she encounters a problem she does everything humanly possible to get it fixed."
