Graduate Student Becki Lawver
Becki Lawver received her bachelor's in agricultural education from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and was a high school agriculture teacher for nine years in Nebraska. She completed her master's degree in leadership education at UNL in 2007, and she is now pursuing a Ph.D. in agricultural education at the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) at the University of Missouri.
"I came to Mizzou for a couple of reasons," Becki says. "First, a former college classmate had been encouraging me to get my Ph.D. for about the last three years, and as a former Mizzou Grad and current staff member – he highly recommended Mizzou. Second, the faculty and staff are some of the best in the business; their reputation for producing highly qualified people is known nationwide. Each one of them has a unique strength that adds to the dynamics of the department. They work together very well and are always mentoring, teaching and encouraging. Third, I don't think I would have gotten the experience I am getting anywhere else."
Becki enjoys the opportunity to teach, research and do service at MU. "I feel that I am being very well prepared to become a faculty member someday," she says.
Her research interests include teacher wellness, the priorities of high school teachers, student recruitment and teacher shortage in agricultural education.
